{stig·ma} noun;
A mark of disgrace associated with a particular circumstance, quality, or person.
For those struggling with mental illness or adjusting to life after a Traumatic Brain Injury, one of the biggest challenges can be overcoming the stigma attached to it. The connection between mental illness and TBI is rarely acknowledged. This often leaves TBI survivors feeling ostracized.
By sharing your own journey, you can inspire others to do the same! Talking about your mental health can make others feel more comfortable seeking help and learning coping strategies.
After sustaining a Traumatic Brain Injury, individuals can often feel isolated and lack a sense of belonging or community. This can also be said for those who are living with mental illness. Connecting with others facing similar obstacles is beneficial to mental wellness.
